After four great years, Islay Auty has stepped down as Chief Selector for British Junior and Young Riders. Stepping up to the role will be Andrea Smith, whilst Nikki Herbert joins Leanne Wall as Selector.
Islay, a Fellow of the British Horse Society and List 2 Dressage Judge, has been instrumental in the success of Under-21s dressage and the development of the British Young Riders Dressage Scheme (BYRDS) for many years.
She was BYRDS Director for eight years from 2003 until 2010, and Junior and Young Rider Selector from 2008 until 2012 when she took over as Chief Selector.
Islay has also held further voluntary roles over 20-plus years including Pony Chef d’Equipe and Coach Educator to the BEF Excel Talent Programme.
Islay was instigator of the BD Young Professionals Award - a scheme launched in 2009 to encourage Young Riders who want to make a career in dressage - and is one of its co-ordinators, working continually to develop this scheme.
